These lanterns make beautiful decorative accents, as well as practical ones – cardinals like to perch on the lantern I use as a birdfeeder. They are stunning luminaries at a wedding; they are evocative of catching fireflies as a child if lit for a party on a summer night. They look beautiful hanging with flowers, sand, tea lights, votives, dried flowers, bird seed; anything you can think to hang.
Due to their age, lanterns may have minor chips. Due to their actual use as canning jars, the logo may have faded slightly over time. Message me if you have concerns about this.
Inside the jar is a votive for size comparison. You can also look at a size comparison (and more pictures) of half gallon, quart, pint, and half-pint jars at my Facebook page:

The lantern being sold in this listing is/are made of untwisted rebar wire (approximately 14" handle) and a vintage mason jar.
If left outside in the elements, the rebar will likely rust beautifully over time, giving your mason jar lantern a lovely country feeling.
This jar dates to between 1960 - 1975. (I used the Ball logo chart at the bottom of http://home.earthlink.net/~raclay/DatingBalljars.HTML to approximately date the jars.)
