This is a beautiful carved Victorian carved bone brooch. The brooch is 2 inches by 1 5/16 inches. The carving is exquisite, very detailed, and classic for this time period. There are no cracks, chips, scratches, scuffs, or nicks in the material. It is possible that this is ivory, many of these pieces were ivory, but I have had it examined by an expert who thinks that it might be bone. There are some qualities of this piece that appear like ivory, but there are no obvious lines or crosshatching. The pin and catch function well.
This is a stunning Victorian piece.
