An Italian-born Parisian resident, Elsa was known to her friends merely as "Schiap". She was the first designer to use shoulder pads and create fashions that resembled objects of art, such an evening gown that looked like a giant carrot or another one with a large lobster on it. Her circle of friends included Jean Cocteau and Salvadore Dali. She is also the inventor of the color "shocking" pink.....hence the name of her signature perfume and autobiography which I am currently reading. (Good book, too, by the way, if you can find it on eBay...)
Every evening when I close her book, my mind races with unusual and crazy ideas to decorate my evening bags. Schiap designed with no restraints, so I tried to do the same....and this evening bag is the result.
This is my second "Schiap" clutch and it is made from a beautiful black and white striped, high-end Egyptian cotton fabric. The "bow" has been created using a pair of vintage 50's black gloves which are each decorated with seven rhinestones set atop embroidered flowers and vines. Please note that you cannot see all the rhinestones on the glove lying underneath, but they are all there.
I have added a vintage brooch to the center of the "bow" which has both clear and frosted rhinestones in it. The purse is lined in a yummy vintage 1940's pink silk and opens with a hex-frame.
Measurements:
Length: 13 inches
Height: 5 inches
Width: 1 1/2 inches
NOTE TO LAUREN: Silver/Black Silk Lame Clutch with silver/black floral brocade lining, gloves and brooch to be removed from this bag and added to yours, small loops added to inside for optional chain, if you choose to add one.
It's gonna be gorgeous!
