When I found and drew a dead bird outside of Brampton City hall, it effected me a great deal. I wrote a blog (www.RicksonArt.blogspot.com) about the experience and was told about www.flap.org, an organization that lobbies buildings to turn off their lights to prevent 'window kill'. When you purchase this piece, a percentage will be donated to FLAP to help prevent unneeded bird fatalities.
The experience inspired me to create this 'Birdcage', as I found myself thinking about both life and death in relation to my own fertility. In creating a new life, I must accept that mine will end.
This bird carries unhatched eggs with it's wing like tentacles, and keeps too hatched eggs safely inside her body, where two beaks grasp two stones, like precious bits of food.
Choose your children's birth stones for inside the beaks! Simply write which cubic zerconia stones you'd like from the chart in the 'message to seller'. Maximum 2 stones, for more write the stones in the 'message to seller' an I'll send you an invoice for $25 per stone.
