This is a large wheel thrown mug and the clay was "stretched" out a bit at the top and "pressed" in a little in the middle so it has kind of a "tulip" shape to it. It has an wonderful "flat-ish" extruded handle and a even a little foot ring! The mug was bisque fired first before I painted on the whimsical Dr. Seuss inspired botanical garden and added the amazing quote you see above. The inside of the mug is painted with a bright and bold funtabulous Aqua Blue, but I kept the bottom white and it has my signature little black swirly and i also painted a little orange poppy floating up by the rim/handle. The wondrous bright yellow handle has "EXPLORE" written on it. I titled the piece "Happy Trails", signed and dated it on the bottom, applied 2 coats of clear glaze to the inside and outside of the mug, and then fired it again to cone 06.
The finished mug holds 20 ounces of whatever liquid, and stands 4" tall and is about 4 3/4" wide at the top, not including the handle.
All of my handmade pottery is painted with lead free/food safe glazes. It is microwave and dishwasher safe, although I do recommend hand washing because my carefully made clay pieces, although very durable, happily deserve a little more love than commercially manufactured ware. Please do not put this in the oven!
