This necklace evolved out of my "Coconut Spike" necklace design. I loved working with these materials so much that I thought another design would be in order. That, combined with the fact that I share a studio and sit right across from leatherworker Marc Simard of http://www.broundoor.etsy.com got me into the idea of making a necklace that combined leather, coconut spikes and these great vintage gold toned metal bars.
Marc was kind enough to hook me up with some leather and his amazing japanese leather punch, and I got to work. After punching what seems like millions of holes and attaching millions of gold rings, this necklace was born, and I'm very happy with the result!
As with the "Coconut Spike" necklace the attaching of rings/spikes is time consuming, but worth it in the end for the rich look it creates. All the leather used in my work is offcut/reclaimed leather, which Marc has been kind enough to help me source, thanks Marc!
The chain is 30" long, please note that the necklace has been pinned shorter in the photo with the model, refer to the images of the necklace on the mannequin for a better idea of where the necklace hangs.
This necklace is available in three more colours!
- burgundy/cocoa
- black/cocoa
- taupe/natural
