The Shopping Shawl is designed so that I can grocery shop without having to carry my list in my teeth while shoving produce into bags….so undignified. The Fishbone Lace stitch pattern is designed to be the same on both sides and to lay perfectly flat without blocking.
I have a pet peeve about having a right and wrong side for scarves or shawls so I am always trying to design them to lay flat and be reversible and, except for the pockets, this one is.

This example is knitted with Peacefleece which is a worsted weight wool. It took 7 skeins or 1400 yards for the girl you see modeling it who is 5'8". If you are taller you may need an extra 200 yards or so. If you are shorter you can get away with 1200. If you are very petite maybe 1000. As usual, I suggest you buy a bit more than you think you need, you can add the rest to your stash.

This pattern has one pattern row that requires YO's and K2tog. In between you have either a plain knit or a plain purl row for resting. It is a good pattern for the first time lace knitter.
