Rust goat skin bags are individually crafted using ancient methods of tanning called “pit tanning”, a process whereby goat skins are placed in pits with various liquors made from leeched oak barks of deferring ages and strengths. The skins are soaked in these liquors for a period of up to 6 months. Goat skin is known for its strength, lightness and durable. Commonly used in the manufacture of quality chamois, drumheads, gloves and other leather products that require a soft and long-lasting hide. Rust leather is not chemically treated and so retains a distinctive earthy aroma that fades over time. Our rust bags will include natural scaring, a consequence of the life of the leather and uneven stitching, giving your bag a well-travelled look. Over time, rust leather bags will darken, become malleable and mould to the individuals character. We guarantee that no two bags we create are identical. Please remember that rust bags are a natural product and as such, upon purchase, you will need to wipe all salt and excess wax (if any) off your bag. Apply leather conditioner to your bag within 30 days of purchase to ensure the leather is sealed and protected from water and sunlight. Please remember that your bag is individually handmade and as such will contain various anomalies which form part of its unique handmade design.
