Good day to you, Ladies and Gentleman. Our little shop – “Mann & Co” – proudly presents a pair of solid brass goggles. These goggles are truely handmade – unlike many goggles you see here, on Etsy, these goggles aren’t made with use of some kind of the base – plastic welding\motorcycling\swimming goggles, brass water pipes etc… Our brass goggles are made from scratch. And then we say it – we mean it. Here is the list, that gives you all the needed information about our product and it's properties:
Frames – cut from solid brass using some powertools. Outer diameter of each frame - 52mm, inner diameter 42mm.
Lenses – cut from 3mm thick perspex using some powertools. Material of the lenses provides UV protection.
Oculars – cut from 2mm veg-tanned leather.
Padding - cut from 1mm leather. The padding is handstitched to the oculars with waxed polyester thread.
Strap – cut from 2mm veg-tanned leather. The strap are 1.55 cm wide and long enough to fit even the most large heads, or being worn over aviator caps or cylinder hats.
Strap buckle and loop – classic "roll buckles" made from steel and brass anodized. Very durable.
Screws and Nuts – made from solid brass, 1\8 inch threading.
These brass goggles are fully wearable and fit perfectly.
In addition to all this, we want to add some important notes. Practically, our goggles build fully from brass and leather (sometimes using mild steel, tin or copper rivets) – no aluminium, no ‘’recycled leather’’, no synthetics, plastic frames….The only un-authentic parts are perspex lenses and polyester threads – and this, is only for the reason of safety and reliability – we do not want shards of broken glass getting into eyes of our clients, nor, we do not want goggle padding falling apart after two or three years of usage. That’s why, it is not glass lenses and cotton thread, but perspex and polyester.
These brass goggles do not have a replaceable lenses, they are made very solid, strong and a bit heavy. The lense is very thik, and if broken (that is very improbable) doesn’t shatters like glass. The frames themselves can withstand almost any blow, and, if not shoot with a gun, put into a car crasher or thrown into a melting pot (highly unrecommended!!) will likely serve you for a lifetime. Although, these goggles are a novelty item after all, so, we do not recommend using them then working with acids or other hazardous material, riding a bike or flying a plane.
These goggles (as any other product, that will appear in our store) is styled as part of military or civil equipment from the fictional world of Prestel (of ‘’Last Exile” anime series), so it’s always a little story with the item you buy. Don’t take it too serious, we just drew our inspiration from strange and beautiful universe of Prestel.

The brief "historical" information:
This goggles once belonged to a member of Anatoray Voluntary City Militia (Aνατοραι Εθελοντικ? Π?λη στρατο?) – military organization formed by government in a postwar period , mostly from demobilized low-rank soldiers. The purpose of this unit was to fight with organized crime, civil unrest, riots, smugglers and even sky piracy. Also, the purpose of this unit’s creation, was to give an employment to vast numbers of demobilized aerial musketeers, who didn’t know any other work except serving as a deck sharpshooter, and in many occasions didn’t have a home to return to. If not employed and properly controlled, this people could cause many troubles to society of Anatoray.
Basically, uniform of volunteers consisted only from an armband with sign of Anatoray and abbreviation “A.V.C.M’’ . Although, very soon, volunteers created their own uniform codex, or, in a greater degree, a kind of fashion, varying from a city or volunteer’s occupation in his regiment.
Story of an Item:
Back to the goggles – they are a perfect example of an individual craftsmanship and strange military fashion – almost certainly, this brass goggles belonged and were made by a volunteer, who served in militia as a part of many "stormbands" – groups formed from skilled melee fighters, to deal with most dare situations in a most violent way – usually to protect merchant vessels from boarding teams of sky pirates, and on the contrary – to board skyships of smugglers. Since all this activity concerns with sky, high altitude and open deck, many "stormbandmen" considered wearing goggles and mask as a necessity – winds in the skies of Anatoray are still strong, although now they are free from the clutches of Grand Stream.
Goggles like these often were put on even during close quarters combat, thus serving not only as protection from wind, but also as protection from melee weapons – and that is the reason, why these eyepieces build in a such sturdy manner – solid brass frames can withstand a sword blow, and a lense is so thick, that it may not shatter, even if stabbed with a bayonet.
Actually there is nothing so special about this pair. This is one of the most popular and rather simple design of ''stormbandsmen'' goggles. Widespread, along with some other popular designs. Practical and elegant, this design is a base for many, so to say, ''individualized'' goggles in our collection. There is, however, one interesting fact about them - this type of goggles was handcrafted not only by volunteers, but also by many craftsmen not related to the militia. They just sold it to those volunteers who were too lazy to make a pair.
As conclusion, we must say, that these fine goggles are a small piece of Anatoray history, in it’s most hard, but glorious postwar period.
