This is one of them.
Or two of them, should i say...
A shirt and skirt combo that extends leaps and bounds beyond the definition of "classic", and unlike anything you'll find probably anywhere else but here, at your Vague Vintage wellspring.
This is an historic ensemble, handcrafted, and immaculately so.
Not only did the woman (if I may be so bold as to assume it was a woman) who made these over 100 years ago do a knock-out job of it, but time has been kind to these garments as well.
Other than a few slight frays, tiny holes and a rip on the front frill of the jacket (mostly fixable, I believe) this getup is in Unbelievably amazing condition. The skirt may never have been worn for all I can tell.
I like to imagine that any character marks it has incurred happened at the hearth, or at the hands of children, on the body of the very woman whose stitchery, so long ago now, was so impeccably executed. Examining it closely I get vague flashes of her fingers, so delicately sewing in the dim light of her Victorian home.
... Did she knit her brow as she knitted shawls, waiting for her Civil War Soldier to return?...
Maybe I'm just being romantic, but I really feel when I'm near to these clothes, that I'm in the presence of an awesome thing. History.
A ghost.
