The adze is one of the oldest woodworking tools known to mankind, and is found around the version is based on the Native American tool, particularly of the Pacific Northwest, where totem pole carvers used it with spectacular results. The Elbow Adze is capable of removing a lot of wood very quickly, or in small chips with great control. Sculptors, chair makers, bowyers, and carvers of wooden bowls will all find this tool extremely useful, and I use it a great deal myself in roughing out handles and wooden parts.

My Adzes have a razor sharp, slightly curved blade forged from recycled high-carbon steel. The blade is 1/4" thick and fairly heavy, and flares out to an edge around 1 1/2" wide. Due to the double curvature of the blade, it can be sharpened with a flat stone, but is capable of making hollowing cuts.

For strength, handles are carved from a natural fork, usually Mesquite wood. Handle is 13" long and is finished in shellac. The blade is recessed into the wood and fastened with two wood screws, for a strong but removable attachment.

I can also make a version designed more specifically for hollowing, with a longer, more curved blade, or one with a completely flat edge suited to hewing and smoothing a flat surface.

Since I make these to order, it may take me up to seven days to get your adze made up and in the mail. Please convo me with any questions or customization requests. 18 and older only to purchase this item, please! Shipping is included in the purchase price. Thanks for looking!
