this ring is absolutely beautiful in person and is made of solid sterling, with a bit of the underneath of the skull carved out for weight balance.
perched so that it sits back against the finger for more weight support. beak tends to rest between the fingers. two bands allow for weight distribution of the skull. this is a heavy ring, but i've been wearing it comfortably on my fingers for days now.
oxidized so the beak, eye cavities, and small details caught in the piece from the original skull are a dark gray black, allowing for the silver of the rest of the piece pop.
the owl has a sordid history within many cultures. it is at once a creature revered and damned, given powers of wisdom and prophecy while at the same time being likened to the raven for it's tendencies to be able to speak with the dead, for to hear the call of an owl within a dark forest meant certain death. i was immediately drawn to the strange aspects of this particular owl, for it digs within the earth to make it's home.
this is a BIG ring. note the last picture of it on the hand of the model.
this ring is also available in a gunmetal finish.
