This bed features a frame built from true 2x8 floor joists from a home we deconstructed on north villere st in the 9th ward. The posts are the top plate of the walls. The homes in new orleans were framed with barge board or in this case balloon framing which means the wall stud runs from the sill to the the roofline the top plate acted as the tie in for the roof rafters, ceiling joists and the walls. They were built from 4x4 solid heartpine and mortised out by hand with a chisel to accept the notched framing. The headboard and footboard feature decorative wrought iron in the style of many French Quarter balconys and garden district fences ! Another custom feature which can be specified by the customer is the top of the headboard posts, there are many options if you are not satisfied with the floor model which features authentic handcut nails welded together to tie in with the foot and headboard iron.
I have designed the bed so that it can be easily assembled by the customer and all hardware and instructions are included, it is bolted together the bolts are covered by square pegs. The bed is super strong, unique and beautiful!
