CIRCA: Manufactured in 1958. Purchased in 1962.
MANUFACTURER: Emerson Radio and Phonograph Company, Jersey City, N.J. U.S.A.
DETAILS: Unbelievable. A complete set like this is extremely scarce and and is highly collectible. It's quite rare to see a full transistor radio set paired with its color and condition AND fully-functional! From my understanding, this was one of the early model transistor radios. It was one of the most popular Emerson models manufactured from the late 1950s through the early 1960s. The turquoise plastic case is free of cracks or chips. The shiny plastic shows a few typical, minor, very superficial signs of use. The fully legible metallic graphic text is a bit rubbed, mainly on the backside. (Kind of amazing because more often than not, transistor radio graphics of this age are nearly gone.) There is no detectable surface oxidization. The gold dials are back-painted to protect the numbers from wear and I believe the centers are brass. The AM radio functions at all volumes. The whole thing looks fabulously space age.
The set includes:
> The entire original "gift" box with individual compartments for each piece.
> A turquoise "Emerson Vanguard 888 Eight Transistor Pocket Radio" with a 3-way kickstand.
> The original registration and extended warranty coupons.
> The original inspection and serial number tag.
> 2 "personal listening attachments" (apparently this was manufactured before the word "earphones" was coined). One comes in an adorable plastic case & the other new in its original, unopened package.
> A brown leather carrying case with shoulder strap
> An additional unused length-extending shoulder strap.
> Brand new batteries are included for your listening pleasure. (It takes x4 regular AAs.)

Please excuse my less than awesome webcam microphone.
OVERALL CONDITION: Rated WHOA. The bold colored facade is shiny, unfaded and insanely attractive. Aside from the shoulder strap, the leather case itself has hardly a sign of use. The box is in fair/good condition. The earphones are clean and functioning. (For obvious reasons, the unopened earphones have not been tested.) Please read throught the above details from more information on the radio iteself. Additionally, be sure to see & hear the radio in action for the full effect!
MEASUREMENTS: Radio = aprx 7" x 4" x 2" & Boxed Set = aprx 14" x 9" x 2 3/4"
NOTE: The radio is a slightly mintier shade of blue than what seen in the photos. The video was shot with overcast light and the color's a bit more accurate though much darker. (The type of light used tends to alter colors slightly.) Additionally, though I diligently inspect and research the items in my shop, I am not a transistor radio expert, nor am I perfect. Heck, I'm not even all that technologically savvy. With that, I encourage contacting me at info [!at] retrovertigoetsy.com with any questions, concerns, and words of wisdom.
