This colorful, happy, hand-sewn journal is just waiting for you to fill it. Created with rescued book covers from a 1942 childrens' book called Merry Hearts and Bold, this is a sewn-over-tapes journal, which means it will lay flat when open. I used a strong, purple mulberry paper for the edging on the board and sturdy waxed linen thread for sewing.

I took my color cues from the bright colors of the boards themselves- orange, purple and green! Orange ultrasuede tapes give a pop of color to the spine, and the pages are 90lb, smooth bristol board with 40lb colored papers in green and purple mixed in for variety. They are cut flush on the edges, and the whole book has a good weight. Inside the back cover, an (unused) vintage 1954 french fry holder from old diner stock serves as a small pocket.
