These were issued to soldiers in WWII for toiletries.
Made by the original DOPP KIT Company in Chicago IL.
The stamp on the bottom reads:
DOPP KIT
Chicago
Pat No. 2123454
TOP GRAIN COWHIDE
That patent was issued to Doppelt (The name of the inventor of the Dopp Kit) in 1938 for the design of the case.
The leather has a nice warm tone to it and is still supple and flexible.
The inside is lined with Vinylite, as noted in the tag under the liner.
A pouch is included in the liner.
The pair of metal mirrors fit snugly in a green canvas bag with button.
The smaller mirror is one sided.
The larger is two sided and has "CONSOLIDATED MFG. CO. DAYTON.O
U.S. ARMY"
stamped on one side around the hole.
All pieces are in excellent condition and could still be used today.
There are some red stains on the Vinylite liner, and very mild signs of use on the rest. Overall it is all in remarkable condition.
A great find for any collector or enthusiast!
