I've been making these yarn and stick mandalas on and off since the 1960's, after seeing example made by Huicholi natives in central Mexico. I've taken a great deal of joy over the years trying my best to create artistic satisfaction within this framework, balancing color and design into pleasing geometric constructions. I hope my love of this artwork comes through in all I create.
I create in many sizes and shapes, but mostly I've stuck with 8-sided "ojos" that match those made by the Navajo, and more recently my own 12-sided designs, which I believe match many spiritual and religious cosmologies.
All of my ojo have specific color and design themes, which are reflected in the individual names I've given them.
