About the Red Pandas:
They are often mistaken for foxes or raccoons and have a curious name. The Red Panda is not a bear, but rather a tree creature [ family: Ailuridae ] primarily spread throughout the Himalayas. They are solitary and nocturnal animals that sleep on tree branches or hollows during daytime hours. Considered a living fossil by many due to their loose relative connection to the Giant Panda. Deforestation and subsequent habitat degradation are the primary threats to these otherwise seldom known species. The Red Panda has been also hunted for its fur citing another hazard.
