This instrument started with one of my organically grown hard-shelled gourds. The best 4 cord light lime green Irish waxed linen was woven over the gourd with a plastic bead on each stitch. When shaken, the beads hit the woody gourd surface which produces a wonderful clear rattling tone! Plastic beads are considered the standard for shekere-style instruments. The seeds inside the gourd produce a soft sound that can be heard when shaken if the bulb of the gourd is held.
