A hand dyed batik fabric featuring graphic geckos! Geckos are lichen green on a white background. Fabric is 44" wide by 18" long half yard. Geckos are approximately 4" long by 2" wide.
This gecko pattern draws its inspiration from a design from the Ivory Coast.
To create this fabric, I wax the fabric, leaving unwaxed the areas that I wanted to be green -- the gecko shapes. I dye it in a strong value of lichen green. The wax crackles and allows some dye to seep through and create fissures of green. As with all batiks, one side of the fabric will have different hues and patterning than the other.
I have removed the wax in boiling water and tested this fabric for colorfastness in 140 degree water. All of my fabrics are colorfast and preshrunk and can be used with confidence in handmade quilts.
