Technique: Batik
Size: 20" wide by 38" long
Fabric: 100 percent mercerized cotton
Another new pattern I'm introducing this month is Romulus, based on a Roman mosaic. I particularly enjoy drawing on ancient mosaic designs and translating them to fabric.
To create this fabric, I waxed the fabric and dyed it in a bold value of lichen green. The wax crackled and allowed some dye to seep through and create fissures of green. As with all batiks, one side of the fabric will have slightly different hues and patterning than the other.
I have removed the wax in boiling water and tested this fabric for colorfastness in 140 degree water.
