GICLEE print SCRATCHBOARD
Printed on Lustre Pearl 66 lb paper
Story behind the art:
Food is beautiful and so I drew my dinner salad in scratchboard. The point of view is to give the viewer a magnified version of something we see every day and changing it slightly so that it becomes surreal.
I thought the monochromatic coloring and magnified view
would be in keeping with the bigger than life impact. This drawing will also appear in my forthcoming cookbook.
ABOUT SCRATCHBOARD: is a board coated with china clay that has been sprayed with India Ink. The drawing is scratched or engraved through the black ink to reveal the white underneath. I add the color after the first removal of
black ink. There can be many layers of color added and re-scratching.
Bottom line is that this is a very slow and tedious process. The rewards are great though, as the effect is very striking and different from other drawing techniques. I have been a scratchboard artist for many years and have never grown bored with this magical art medium.
Original done under magnifying class with a cutting blade.
