The background at the top is light blue that fades to white to emphasize the wolf's head. The eye and the mouth were painted with watercolors with the addition of a tar-like coffee binder.
This is a gray wolf with his thick, winter coat juxtaposed with the delicacy of the vibrant spring tulips.
It measures 12" x 16" and is signed on the bottom right hand corner by artist; it is titled "Gray Wolf Amongst Tulips" and dated with the year, 2010, on the back.
In Native American mythology, "The Wolf is considered a good sign, a protector, a good hunter, wise, cunning, intelligent, strong, courageous, and yet mysterious."
(Spirits of the Earth, Bobby Lake-Thom)
An interesting fact about wolves is that they run on their toes, which makes their legs longer so that they may take longer strides and run faster.
