Blackwork on linen was a common domestic embroidery technique for clothing and household items such as cushion covers during the reign of Elizabeth I, but fell out of fashion by the 17th century. Very few samples of antique blackwork survive today because the iron-based dye used was corrosive to the thread.
This is my second blackwork ornament design and it also features a garden rabbit stitched with rich black thread on khaki colored osnaburg fabric for an antique appearance. The back of the ornament is a black quality cotton fabric. I have added a black ribbon for hanging. Size is approx. 3.5" x 3.5".
This listing is for one ornament.
This ornament is my own design...drawn, digitized, and machine-sewn by me in my little Ohio cottage!
