- - - - CALENDULA OIL RECIPE - - - -
Use 4 parts of carrier oil (Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Lightly scented vegetable oil such as Canola, or another base oil) to 1 part dried Calendula flowers or petals (enough oil to barely cover the petals).
BAIN MARIE METHOD (or double boiler)
set a glass, ceramic, or stainless steel bowl over a pot that has 2” of simmering water. Heat for at least an hour or two, keeping the temperature warm, but not hot (100 to 150 degrees if using a thermometer). These petals can be removed and more added for a stronger mixture.
Or . . . CROCK POT METHOD
Steep calendula overnight or longer in a SLOW COOKER set on lowest setting.
Or . . . SUN STEEPED METHOD
Infuse flowers in a glass jar in a sunny window for a week or two.
Strain through cheesecloth and squeeze into a glass jar. Let it rest overnight, pour into another jar leaving any sediment in the first jar and discard it.
Store in a cool dark place. refrigerate portion that will not be used within a month or two.
