The system for marking silver with an eagle symbol was in place from 1948 until 1978. Mexican silversmiths would mark their pieces with the eagle symbol, including a number for the town in which it was made. Then usually the craftsman would mark the piece with his or her initials, as is the case with this bracelet.
Bloodstone is a stone with red spots which resemble drops of blood, so it has received its name due to this similarity. Interestingly, in the Middle Ages, bloodstone was attributed special powers as the spots were thought to be the blood of Jesus Christ. It was used in sculptures representing flagellation and martyrdom.
This bracelet has been lightly polished and has a lovely patina. It should polish to a high shine if so desired. The bloodstone is large and full of colors. It measures 2" in height! The bracelet measures 8" including the opening. A perfect addition to your vintage collection!
