A vintage piece of Trifari costume jewelry. This piece is composed of a gold vermeil over sterling silver metal which forms this eagle that is made in the likeness of the Great Seal of the United States. It is made up of a bald eagle with the seal over it's head reading "E Pluribus Unum" which is Latin for "Out of Many, One". The brooch is an eagle centered by the shield on it's breast with 13 stripes made up of red and white enamel and symbolizing the original 13 colonies. The plaque above the head is also supposed to be 13 stars but there are only 7 white rhinestones set over a black enamel background. The eagle also has white rhinestone accents on it's wings and it holds a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other which symbolize war and peace. The back of the brooch is signed "Trifari" and "Sterling" and the entire brooch measures 1 1/4" long by 1 1/4" in width. It is in great overall condition having no missing rhinestones or metal and only a slight wear from age to the red and white enameled stripes.
