The apeman had only simple language, but he understood her and the voice of Shub-Niggurath told him many things in his dreams. He found an ancient oak and carved a symbol on it, exactly as the voice had instructed. In due time many plants good to eat grew around the tree and the whole tribe began to dwell there. The tribe held the dreamer in high esteem and he became first in all things. The voice of Shub-Niggurath showed the dreamer how to sing and he in turn taught the tribe to sing the Dark Mother's praises. The voice taught him better ways to hunt and forage so that his people would prosper. For a time it was perfect,the tribe grew large and the children strong.
Then one night at the dark of the moon, Shub-Niggurath spoke to the dreamer with a voice harsh and terrible. The dreamer told the tribe of the Dark Mother's desire, they should capture people of another tribe, as many as were the fingers men. Half were to be bled dry on the roots of the great oak at the time of falling leaves. The other half were to serve as fodder for the terrible firstborn of Shub-Niggurath, who would come at the dark of every moon henceforth. It was done, the dreamer led his tribe to war for the pleasure of his dark god and she smiled upon him.
With the blessing of Shub-Niggurath the dreamer lived far beyond the normal span and when he at last passed they buried his body at the foot of the great oak so it would be tangled in the ever growing bloodthirsty roots. The tribe dwelt for countless years at feet of the great oak and in time they evolved into true men and built a great stone temple around the ancient tree and the first city of man on earth. even to this day the Priests of Shub-Niggurath claim that when the comet Oucarobius stains the sky, the Dreamer's voice is still heard in the courtyard. Although some would say it is just the echoing shrieks of apes from the distant forest.
