This piece is a looser, more abstract variation on my recent work. The imagery is based on an old railroad manual from the era of the steam engine. I've taken the diagrams apart and combined them in different ways, then allowed the geometry to become less precise as I paint in the forms. I also make marks with a pencil in the wet paint which creates an interesting textured line. I'm fascinated by the obsolete and forgotten technology recorded by this manual. - August 2010
The last image shows this piece with some of my other work.
10x10" oil and graphite on canvas mounted to 2" deep wood panel. Sides of panel finished with matte acrylic - no framing necessary. Hanging wire installed on inside of reverse so the painting hangs flush to the wall. As you can see from the photo, this piece will also stand on its own if you would like to display it on a table or shelf. Signed and dated on reverse. I recommend purchasing insurance when mailing original pieces - please let me know if you would like me to insure your item. Insurance info and pricing is available on the USPS website.
