Who's Christy Mathewson?
Christy Mathewson was a professional baseball player. Mathewson played the bulk of his career for the New York Giants. Mathewson was a World Series champion, pitched 2 no-hitters, and is 3rd all-time in wins and shutouts. Mathewson was named to an all-century baseball team and was one of the first five players inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
This print was inspired by vintage tobacco cards of the late 1800s and early 1900s. This print features Mathewson in the foreground in his New York Giants uniform set against a bright red/yellow background. The "card" has a very vintage and distressed look. Mathewson's words remind us that the biggest lessons in life often travel with defeat.
