The puzzle is fun and educational to assemble and the wood with its grain and character is beautiful on your refrigerator or another metallic surface.
This US puzzle features what I call a discontinuous grain pattern, meaning that the grain direction is unique for every piece. At the scale of the puzzle the grain lines almost look geological or even agricultural and their individuality gives each state an identity.
Rhode Island and Delaware are laser-etched on larger adjoining states.
I made several of these USA puzzles from a single oak board. The puzzle for sale here is identical to the one pictured except for slight variations in the wood grain.

Cut from a salvaged piece of oak, rescued from certain destruction. Finished with natural linseed oil.
