The car appliqued and freehand embroidered is a classic French icon, car of my childhood, a Citorën 2CV. It is fully loaded with suitcases on the roof ready to cross borders and explore.
The body of the car is made from vintage turquoise and green floral bed linen fabric, and appliqued onto natural Irish linen. The suitcases are made from various recycled and new fabrics, and the wooden hoop is made in Britain.
The embroidery is done using a basic sewing machine fitted with a freehand embroidery foot. I sketch my drawings, cut the fabric to be appliqued and 'redraw' my sketch freehand straight onto the fabric using black thread.
The hoop measures 8" (21cm) in diameter.
Ready to hang by the screw of the hoop.
