This large Art Deco buckle/ clasp is in superb condition considering its age. The naive painted flowers are painted in very bright primary colours.It measures approximately 5ins long (12.8cm) and 2ins (5.1cm) deep at the widest points.The design is die cast metal (possibly brass) and the flowers are painted to simulate enamel (cold enamel) .Each half of the buckle is identical.They are not mirror images of each other.
Over the years I have had many vintage buckles/clasps in this style and on nearly all of them the paint has rubbed and worn, or lost its bright quality.This one is an outstanding exception, and is almost as fresh as the day it was made approximately 85 years ago.The only very slight fault I can see is a minor rubbing of the plating in a few areas on the edges and on extreme inside edge of the hook part of the clasp.These are virtually impossibly to show and I consider these to be commensurate with age,they do not detract from a stunning item.
