This double kidney necklace is to raise awareness and money for Polycystic Kidney Disease Research. $25 from each of these necklaces goes directly to the PKD Foundation to help find a cure for this disease.

The pendants are made from tarnish-resistant Argentium Sterling Silver and are about 1.25" long, and hang from your choice of a 16 or 18" Argentium Silver chain or leather necklace (shown in last picture) with sterling silver clasp.

They're available polished or hammered. Please let me know which chain, length and finish you want during checkout. I'll provide a 16" silver chain and a polished finish if not specified.

Why am I doing this? I'd never heard of it before I met my friend Ruth. Ruth, her father and one of her sons have PKD.

ABOUT PKD:
One in 600 Americans is affected by polycystic kidney disease. In its most common form, PKD causes multiple large cysts to form in the kidneys, creating scar tissue as they grow and eventually impairing function to the point of total kidney failure. There is no cure for PKD, and the only available treatments are dialysis and kidney transplantation.

Living with kidney failure due to PKD means living with a supressed immune system, constant fatigue, inability to concentrate, and pain in the kidneys. Even if one is lucky enough to receive a transplant, there are many complications that can and do arise from living a life on anti-rejection drugs and continued immune supression. And transplants don't last forever (10-12 years on average), so patients live with the knowledge that no solution is permanent until there is a cure.
