The history of a whole cloth quilt can be traced back as far as the Egyptians. They've actually found flax and linen textiles elaborately stitched around cotton mats in the pyramids! The European and American versions traditionally were made of bleached or unbleached muslin with cotton batting or flannel. I have read that the custom of giving these quilts as a wedding gift is linked to the time it takes to make one. A queen size can take up to six months to finish.
This is the ultimate heirloom quilt! If you are a quilt collector, or would like to have something that carries so much WONDERFUL history, you must add a whole cloth quilt to your collection!
For this quilt I used a 100% cotton quilters cotton solid in a soft beige and quilted it in wine thread. I have also made them in red with black thread, blue with white thread, sage with umber thread and black with black. The color combinations are limitless and open to your imagination!
This quilting design is a contemporary twist on a Native American beading design. I have also used more traditional designs like feathers, hearts, cross hatching, cables, spines and free form. Everything works!
♥ Please note that this quilt will take 18-24 months to complete as it is all done by hand.
