this sterling silver ring features the skull(s) of a two headed girl/boy, fashioned in the style of victorian mourning & the latin phrase: memento mori, which means, 'remember your mortality' or 'remember you must die'. this is the first 'human' fragment i have done and was also created as an homage to one of my oldest obsessions, the conjoined twin. the title comes from tod browning's cult movie 'freaks,' and explores my obsession with those marked with physical abnormalities as a personal metaphor for the visualization of internal psychic trauma and how people are connected by these flaws and 'oddities.


The type of conjoined twin imagined here in ring form is the Cephalothoracopagus, which is when the head and thorax are fused, having two faces but sharing one body. This ring is also an exploration of the myth of the doppelgänger. It is believed that if you catch a glimpse of yourself within your periphery that it is a sign that you will die. However, I believe that the image of the doppelgänger can be seen as facing yourself or self-knowledge.
