The black felt is shaped to be the impression the body of the Ichthyosaur might have left in rock, while the embroidered parts convey the partially reconstructed fossil bones. The Ichthyosaur was then sewn onto an aqua blue background reminiscent of the seas it once called home.
I have framed it in a small wooden embroidery hoop measuring 3.75 inches by 5.5 inches. The frame is the hanging variety, so this tiny piece of artwork would be perfect for wall above a desk or in any other small space that needs brightening up.
Ichthyosaurs were not fish, by the way, but rather large sea-going reptiles which resembled modern dolphins.
