The icon of Saint George killing the dragon shows us the fight between good and evil. Saint George represents the Sons of Light and the dragon represents the Dragon of Darkness. The first church to have Saint George’s name was built by Emperor Constantine the Great in the Holy Land. Afterwards many churches carried the name Saint George. He is one of the greatest martyrs for Christ.
ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE:
The icon is painted following the original old technique with tempera paint on stucco canvas mounted on a vintage ceramic tile. I used gold leaf for the background.
The tile is some 30-40 years old and tiles of this type were used on the rooftops of the houses in Bulgaria in the past. This really adds to the "aged" and unique look of the icon.
The icon is sealed with couple of layers to assure a long lasting and well preserved image and to make it easy and safe to clean it from dust.
I could drill holes on top of the tile upon request for easy hanging as on this icon: http://www.etsy.com/listing/40630344/holy-virgin-mary-orthodox-icon Please specify if this is your choice!
Measurements: 11.5" (29cm)long by 6.2"(16cm) wide at the bottom,4.5"(11.5cm)wide at the top, and 0.6" thick (1.5cm)
The icon will be securely packaged to assure that it will reach you in its original intact condition!
