These 2 Romney wool batts celebrate the joy of the return of Autumn. There's a nip in the air, a heady smell of cinnamon, and a new burst of color (and maybe a sneeze or two as the golden rod bloom!).
These batts were created with stripes running throughout, but blending easily with the colors to either side. You can pull the whole thing into roving and enjoy the colors as they come in and out of play. OR you can pull small strips from the sides and spin a yarn that will gently variegate from one color to the next. OR you can spin one batt one way and the other batt the other way and ply together for stunning affects!
There's a whopping 4 full ounces here--enough weight to make a pair of mittens, a jaunty hat or a light lace shawl--just keep in mind that it really depends on how thick or thin you spin it as to how much yardage you get.
This Romney fleece came from Sandy Long's farm, Long Meadow. The sheep is a ram and is named Honey Bear, but called Bear for short. I purchased Bear from Sandy already washed (whew!), but I hand dyed it, picked it and sent it through my Fancy Kitty drum carder. If you'd like me to hand pull the batts into roving for you, please let me know. It's free of charge.
