This lovely offering began its life as an unassuming ugly duckling of a desk but my oh my, it has definitely achieved swan status. I LOVE how this piece turned out...now it needs to find a new home!
This one of a kind 1950‘s treasure is sturdy and solid and a
definite statement piece of art furniture.
Wood and laminate and years of use were transformed through the magic pages of vintage dictionaries, encyclopedias, school books, and foreign language texts. The pages are different shades of whites, creams, tans, and beige and vary depending on the age and condition of each page. Subtle shading was added to highlight corners and curves.
The text pages FULLY COVER the entire desk, meaning you can float it in a room and it will look great from any angle. Sure, it’s a superb work space but it works equally hard as a stylish sofa or stand out side table. It will look great in any room and adds just the right mixture of sensibility and quirk.
8 spacious drawers including one double drawer (#8) that’s perfect for file folders. The inside of the drawers are painted sky blue and lined in black felt. Stunning inside and out. There is some normal wear on the top edge of a few drawers, but it’s sanded and sealed and does not distract from the overall look of the piece. There is a key hole in the center drawer but alas, no key. I haven’t had a chance to search for a suitable replacement but I don’t imagine it will be too difficult to find one, if you so desire to lock the drawer. Black metal knobs and drawer pulls complete the look and stand out against the vintage text.
The 4 tapered legs are solid wood and painted black for a look that blends with any decor.
The desk comes with a custom cut 1/4” thick glass top, perfect to protect and enhance your work surface.
The matching solid wood chair was transformed using the same technique as the desk. Both pieces received two coats of glossy sealer - beauty and durability unite!
