"The Road" (2010)
Original Mixed Media on Canvas
by Mae Chevrette
20" x 16" x 3/4", unframed
"Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again;
we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life." - Jack Kerouac
About this Item:
"The Road" is an original mixed media painting and collage on canvas created using a photograph I took along the roadside in South Dakota during a roadtrip from the west coast to the east. I love this quote by Jack Kerouac from his amazing novel "On The Road" and wanted to make something equally raw, ragged and tired as travel on the open road sometimes feels. I wanted to incorporate all the little bits of road life that seem to accumulate during travel-- receipts, postcards, letters, maps, stories and sighs that make the open road both freeing and wearing. It is all the rough parts of the road we love, in a tangible form.
"The Road" measures 20" x 16" on a pre-stretched, gallery wrapped canvas. It is sealed with a non-yellowing, UV-resistant semi-gloss varnish. The sides of the canvas are collaged and painted, so framing is optional. It will arrive very carefully packaged, signed and ready to hang.
