collage is one of my favourite art forms ~ i love the way found items combine with drawing and/or painting with unexpected and surprising results. to me is is a completely intuitive and natural process. i start each collage with a small piece of found paper {usually a tiny obscured detail from an image from a magazine} and build up from there using pencil, paint and pieces of paper coated with watercolour and pencil. often the shapes, colour and overall mood in the initial piece inspires the rest of the work. the collages in this calendar are inspired by distant landscapes and changes in season.
i chose to allocate the images to each month by matching the work to each of my family members and their birthdays! {do you check your month in every new calendar??}. this method was a fun way to overcome the issue of having opposite seasonal changes in different parts of the world.
