Red Russian kale is highly ornamental and also very nutritious. It flourishes long, deeply serrated, blue–green leaves with pink–red veins. Sweeter than other kale varieties, it prefers cool weather, can tolerate freezing temperatures and should be planted in the fall or early spring. Leaves stay tender making it ideal for eating raw.
