Baseball, good buddy, or gimme caps are as common in casual attire as jeans and T shirts. This knit version is simple to make, uses less than one skein of worsted weight yarn and can be completed in a short time. Game winning home run baseball cap is terrific for gift giving and as well as knitting up a few for your own. The name of this designs comes from a line in Azumanga Daioh, a Japanese cartoon.

This hat is created from the top down in six sections with I cord “seams”. The brim is picked up and worked from stitches picked up from the bottom of 2 sections. The top of the hat may be finished with a purchased button or optional instructions are given for a knitted “button” that is made at the beginning of the crown. The crown of the hat is worked in the round at the top and then side to side for the back opening typical of good buddy caps. An elastic cord I cord is worked in place of the strap, but a purchased fabric strap and buckle can be substituted. The brim is one layer and keeps its shape by a secret method! Surface crochet can be used to add the initials of your sports team.
