It is used as covering in railings, fences and latticework. Its seeds are of mystic importance: it is widely used in amulets against evil eye and to bring foo good luck. It is used medicinally in the treatment of kidney and prostrate problems.
jatobá / Brazilian cherry / Hymenaea courbaril - The jatobá tree grows to 65 feet tall; it is often used in reforestation and landscaping in parks and gardens. Its seed is hard and it is covered by a farina layer that is rich in calcium and magnesium and is used as food by fauna and humans. The trunk has a resin that is used in paint and its bark provides yellow dye. The resin, leaves, and seeds are used in home medicine for treatment of respiratory problems.
