These earrings are based on actual Celtic enamel work from around 100 BC. Most of the Celtic repertoire of images before the advent of interlacing (knotwork) was abstract bold and direct as in this piece.
The meaning is obscure, but it may symbolize the moon's power over the tides, and the three waves represent the three powers of women: the power of purity as a maiden, nurturing as a mother, and wisdom in old age.
Ear wires are made of Niobium. Niobium (Nb) is a soft grey ductile metallic element, also known as columbium that can be coloured with currents of electricity. Along with titanium, tantalum, zirconium, pure refined gold, and platinum it is one of the six most bio-compatible elements.
Even people with severe metal allergies can usually wear niobium.
