Crows are highly intelligent birds who live in groups and have easily adapted to living in close proximity to humans. Like us, they are gregarious, family-grouped and diurnal. A city dweller, I am fascinated by the European carrion crows (corvus corone) that live here, watching them go about their daily activities. They are wary of close contact with humans, and prefer to stay on the roofs and in the trees in populated areas. They have a wide variety of calls for communication, and position their bodies to express fear, aggression or need. Our sixth floor apartment is the perfect vantage point to observe them!
