The set includes two of each motif: martlet (bird), book, shield, sun, porticullis, annulets (rings), tree, fret, battle axe, sword, helmet, fleur de lis, coronet (crown), cross potent, and bell.
The tiles can be used in various ways. A young child can simply find the matching pairs, which requires careful visual discrimination and attention to detail. Older children can turn the tiles face down and play a regular memory match game. They can also be used to learn the names of the traditional heraldric charges depicted.
The tiles are 1 1/2" (approximate) squares of 1/4" thick oak. The designs are permanently burned into the unfinished wood. Expect slight variations as each tile is handmade. They come in a drawstring bag approximately 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" made of repurposed brown linen.
