I've been making the Santa Fe Easy Chair since 1993. The very first two are pictured upholstered in kilmns. I had been making rustic furntiure full time for three years at that point and I was a little frustrated that my chairs were mainly considered for outdoor use. Hence the addition of upholstery. Over the years, they have been featured in Sundance catalog, on the cover of the New Mexico magazine, in a posh hotel in Barcelona, and in an apartment in Florence with a front row view of the Duomo and magazines across Italy. I've probably made 500 of them over the years upholstered in everything from silk to mudcloth to leather to fake fur, but cowhides seem to be the most well suited. This chair is as comfortable to sit in as it is beautiful to look at. It is made from about 32 twigs of New Mexico driftwood and Pinon roots. The arms are arranged for symmetry, comfort and tactile pleasure. The wood is hand waxed and rubbed which gives a beautiful sheen and long lasting protection. The seat is easily removable for eventual reupholstering. Each chair is custom made to order in 4 to 8 weeks. 28"w x42"hx26"d .
