All You Need is Love was written by Lennon, but has been credited to Lennon/McCartney. The Beatles were asked to write a song for the Our World global television link in June of 1967.
There have been many discrepancies as to when this song was written. The Beatles were asked to come up with a song for the link. Some have said it was written for this event, but others have said that All You Need is Love was already written by Lennon and was tailored to fit the program.
Either way, I am glad that it was. McCartney did submit a song, but Lennon's was chosen. This apparently is why Paul has been given credit.
Originally released as a single in July 1967 and immediately went to #1. Placed on the Magical Mystery Tour album.
